Stone Oak
Master-planned living in far north San Antonio — gated communities, newer construction, and hill-country topography.
The overview
Stone Oak is a large master-planned area north of Loop 1604, built out mostly from the 1990s onward along the Stone Oak Parkway corridor between US-281 and I-10. It is a collection of subdivisions rather than a single neighborhood — many gated, most with an HOA and shared amenities like pools, trails, and sport courts.
The appeal is newer housing, hill-country elevation and oak cover, and a self-contained daily life: the parkway has extensive retail, restaurants, and a major medical cluster, with quick access to the airport and the northern job centers.
The homes
Expect two-story stone-and-stucco and brick homes from roughly 1,800 to 5,000-plus square feet, many with pools and greenbelt or canyon lots. The upper end includes custom homes in communities like The Heights at Stone Oak and gated sections with larger parcels and long views.
Schools
Most of Stone Oak is served by North East ISD, which is generally well regarded; specific campuses vary by subdivision, so confirm the assigned elementary, middle, and high school for any exact address. Private and charter options are also close by.
What to know before you buy or sell
- HOA dues, rules, and any gated-community transfer fees vary widely — read the documents before you’re under contract.
- Hillside and canyon lots can carry drainage, retaining-wall, and foundation considerations; inspect accordingly.
- Commute times to downtown can run 25–35 minutes in peak traffic — test-drive your route.
- Sellers: this is a comparison-heavy market. Sharp pricing against the closest recent sales in your own subdivision wins.
